Real Wedding: Kanya, Skye and Archie at Lusty Glaze Beach

Our first wedding of the 2025 season was at Lusty Glaze Beach, and it would be hard to think of a better way to start.

The venue has everything. The views, a wonderfully relaxed feel, and a team who look after their couples and their suppliers properly. After a full week of sunshine, the morning of the wedding decided to absolutely chuck it down. I walked down the 120-odd steps in the rain and was still delighted to be there.

We'd met a year earlier at the Lusty Glaze Beach Wedding Fair

I'd met Tony and Sarah there twelve months before the day, Kanya, their spaniel, was thoroughly soggy at the time, having just been in the sea. She's an energetic girl who lives for the water.

We got talking about their plans, and they booked us there and then. A year ahead always sounds like forever, right up until it isn't.

About ten weeks before the wedding I sent over the booking forms for the dogs and we had a video call to go through everything: the timings, what part each dog would play, and all their likes and dislikes. By the time the day came round, I knew Kanya, Skye and Archie the Yorkie fairly well without having met two of them.

The morning

Walking down those steps alongside some of the guests, everyone was ooh-ing and ahh-ing at the view. It still gets me too, and I've done it plenty of times.

I found the bride to say hello and drop off my backpack of dog essentials, and my lunch. Debs the photographer was already hard at work while hair and make-up were happening.

Then off to find Tony and the actual stars of the show. I had a good chat with Grandad, who was looking after two of the dogs, and we went through their routines. Kanya, meanwhile, was having the time of her life greeting every guest she could reach.

Once everyone was safely settled we headed down to the beach, at which point the heavens opened again. The dogs had been to the toilet and were clean and dry, so we made for the other accommodation to get out of the rain and get ready for Kanya's big moment.

With calming dog music playing in the background, thank you YouTube, all three of them settled down for a snooze.

When the room was clear, I took Kanya through to the ceremony space. She'd been in there before and was perfectly at home, so it was an easy one. Then back to check on Skye and Archie, top up their water and leave the television on for a bit of background noise, and we waited for Kanya to come back.

She was a star for the photographs. We still can't wait to see Debs's professional shots.

Rain, beach walks and reunions

The rest of the day and evening went in walks on the beach whenever the rain gave us a break, feeding, toilet trips and a considerable amount of fuss.

The wedding party made the most of one dry spell for outdoor photographs before heading back in to get the party going.

Before I left I had a tidy up. Nobody wants to come back to a mess after a day like that. One last walk for the dogs, then into the party to say goodbye. The three of them were beside themselves to see their people again, and there were some very good tail-wagging reunions before they were handed over to Grandad and Grandma at ten.

Then I faced the climb back up the steps. In the dark, with no view to admire and no excuse to stop and pretend I was taking a photograph, I puffed my way to the top and went home.

The morning after

The next morning I sent Sarah and Tony everything I'd taken through the day, all the behind-the-scenes photographs and videos of the dogs, and congratulated them again.

We do this for every wedding. Couples are busy on the day, and the dog is often off with us during the bits they'd most like to have seen. Getting those pictures the next morning means they don't miss it.

They were kind enough to leave us a five-star review afterwards, which meant a great deal.
